Born March 1988, parented by District 5150, the Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunrise, Redwood City burst onto the scene. Our founders formed the club with the idea to be a "hands on" organization that puts our community above all else. We've always been a small club, but we have some big people with big hearts. People like Police Captain Ron Matuszak and Police Officer Dan Smith who both stand over 6" tall and people like Andy Frisch, Janet Borgens, Barry Jolette, Bob Sans and John Guilhamet. These people stand tall in Redwood City.
It was these individuals and the other members of this "service above self' , that last year conducted fund raisers that enabled this group, that represents Redwood City and Rotary International, made cash contributions exceeding $30,000 to local organizations where we live and work, to making a better community and world a better place for us all.
You will find this proud group of Rotarians volunteering their time and efforts to many causes including:
- Helping the elderly at the Casa de Redwood Senior Citizen Center
- Gathering and distributing warm clothing and personal care items for the homeless
- Distributing Books and Encyclopedia's for the schools
- Helping at the Second Harvest Food Bank and at St. Anthony's Kitchen to feed the hungry
- During the Holidays, you will right our members, in the cold and rain ringing the bell for the Salvation Army
- Putting together food baskets for the needy at Thanksgiving and again at Christmas
And of course for annual major fund raising event, Irish Night, in honor of St. Paddy's Day, a day on which every one either is or wishes they were Irish. Every year, every member of the Club and many of their spouses actively participating to make it a night to remember and a great success.
International, we have contributed to the building of a library and vocational center in Ghana, Africa. We have also given a scholarships to foreign students to visit the United States and further their studies.
We are a dedicated group, our members today and from the past have many stories to share and can proudly say we truly present Rotary International motto "service above self"
