A Message from the Club President

Being fairly new to Peninsula Sunrise Rotary Club and knowing that most of the members have been President of the club before, I knew it wouldn’t be long before they asked me to be President of the club. They were actually quite gracious and gave me an extra year before asking me. I agreed reluctantly, but knew my time had come to step up.

Despite how worried I was about how was I ever going to have the time to do this, I am so glad I did. I am more committed than ever to our Rotary Club and what we can produce in our personal lives and in the community. The theme of Rotary International is “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity.” You may ask what does that mean? Basically it’s a stand for Peace: Peace at home, Peace in our communities and Peace in the world. At my first meeting, I asked each person to think about a goal they have to increase peace at home since that is where peace has to start. My goal is to spend more quality time with my husband and immediate family. What will you do this year to promote peace at home?

As far as peace in our community goes, I am very excited to have Jayne Hom heading up our New Generations Avenue of service. Because of her amazing efforts we will be able to support RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), a weekend leadership program for young people ages 14-30. We had 5 youth participate in it last year and hope to have at least 5 attend this year. and hopefully get some other local clubs involved so that more youth from Redwood City will be able to experience this great opportunity. We will also continue all of our annual community service programs such as Casa de Redwood Pancake Breakfast, food baskets for the needy at Thanksgiving and Christmas, Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army, Angels gift tags for Christmas, Rebuilding Together, City Trees, and of course our big Fundraiser – Irish Night on March 17, 2012.

Peace to All
